What is Solo Leveling?
Solo Leveling is a South Korean web novel written by Chugong that was later adapted into a webtoon illustrated by Dubu (Jang Sung-rak) under the studio DUBU (Redice Studio). Originally published on the website KakaoPage starting in 2016, the story quickly gained a massive following across Asia and eventually the world, becoming one of the most popular manhwa series in recent memory.
In 2024, the series received an anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures, bringing it to an even wider global audience.
The story is set in a world where magical gates have appeared, connecting the human realm to dangerous dungeons filled with monsters. To combat this threat, certain people awakened supernatural abilities and are classified as Hunters, ranked from E to S based on their power level.
The main character, Sung Jinwoo, begins the series as the weakest E-rank Hunter, barely able to survive the lowest level dungeons. Everything changes after a near death experience inside a double dungeon leaves him as the sole survivor, and he reawakens a unique ability unlike anything seen before: a system that allows him to level up like a character in a video game.
Fans follow Jinwoo as he quietly and methodically grows from the bottom of the food chain into an OP being.
