What is Kinnikuman?
Kinnikuman is a Japanese manga and anime series created by duo Yudetamago (Yoshinori Nakai and Takashi Shimada) that began in 1979. The series follows the adventures of Suguru Kinniku, initially portrayed as a bumbling, incompetent superhero who eventually discovers his true calling as a professional wrestler.
As the prince of Planet Kinniku Suguru must prove himself worthy of the throne by competing in increasingly challenging wrestling matches against powerful opponents from across the galaxy.
The series combines over-the-top prowrestling action with humor, friendship, and epic matches. In the early 2000s, the franchise expanded with “Ultimate Muscle” (known as “Kinnikuman Nisei” in Japan), which follows the adventures of Mantaro Kinniku, Suguru’s son. This sequel series on 4Kids TV introduced Kinnikuman to a new generation of fans worldwide while maintaining the spirit of the original work.
More recently, “Kinnikuman Perfect Origin” revisited the original series timeline, exploring the deeper origins of the Kinnikuman universe and providing fans with fresh insights into the mythology behind the superhero wrestlers.
This arc delved into the ancient history of the Perfect Origin wrestlers, the founding members of the wrestling world, and their connection to Suguru’s destiny, adding new layers to the already rich Kinnikuman lore.
