What is Bleach?
Bleach is a popular shonen anime based on Tite Kubo’s manga that follows Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who gains Soul Reaper powers after a chance encounter with Rukia Kuchiki. The series follows Ichigo and his friends as they battle Hollows, rescue Rukia from execution in the Soul Society, face the Arrancar and Espada under Aizen’s command in Hueco Mundo, and deal with the Fullbringers who target Ichigo’s powers.
I’m not a huge fan of the filler episodes, but Bleach is dope.
The Thousand-Year Blood War (TYBW) arc, which was finally animated in 2022 after a decade-long hiatus, represents the series’ final saga. This arc introduces the Quincy king Yhwach and his Sternritter army, who declare war on the Soul Society to avenge their near-extinction 1,000 years prior.
TYBW features some of the most intense battles in the series, shocking revelations about Ichigo’s lineage, and the return of characters’ Bankai. The animation quality for TYBW significantly improved compared to the original series, with modern production values bringing Kubo’s distinctive art style and dynamic fight scenes to life in spectacular fashion.
So far the Kayou cards include TYBW only.
