If you’re scratching your head wondering what Bankai is, that’s ok. It’s basically the ultimate buff that makes the Gotei 13 captains more impressive than they already are. Here’s my personal top 10.
10. Retsu Unohana: Minazuki
Now, don’t let Unohana’s sweet smile fool you! Her Bankai is cold blooded. To unleash bankai, she first slices open her hand. Then she’s covered in a blood-like substance.
Captain Unohana’s bankai ability versatile. It allows her to heal herself while also manipulating the substance to cut in multiple directions. It has both offensive and defensive applications.
Who knew healing could be so intense?
9. Shinji Hirako: Sakanade
Sakanade makes this list because it’s a pure mind-f***. It affects an entire area and tt’s so powerful that he can’t use it when other shinigami are around.
His Bankai ability flips everyone else’s perception around. Not just physically, but also psychologically. It turns enemies and allies against each other.
In the Thousand-Year Blood War, Shinja used his Bankai on about 20 Wandenreich, who proceeded to slaughter each other almost instantly. It’s just a broken ability.
8. Mayuri Kurotsuchi: Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō
Mayuri’s Bankai is straight-up weirdo science-fiction madness! Who wouldn’t want a poisonous giant baby monster doing their bidding?
This creepy-crawly critter is perfect for making the other captains question if they should have studied biology instead! It’s totally out-of-the-box thinking, and let’s be real, Mayuri is the mad scientist of the group. Genius-ish!
7. Byakuya Kuchiki: Senbonzakura Kageyoshi
Ah, Byakuya’s cherry blossom attack is like a beautiful painting… that wants to chop you into tiny bits!
This Bankai is all about grace and beauty, like a ballet dancer with a sword! At first I thought it was like Gaara’s sand the ultimate defense, but it’s actually more of an offensive weapon with petals combining into swords.
After training with the Royal Guard, Byakuya unlocks a ton of power. Even his Shikai gets mistaken for Bankai.
6. Kisuke Urahara: Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratakai
Now, meet Kisuke, the brainiac of the group! His Bankai is like a surgeon, dissecting things down and stitching them back up.
His Bankai allows him to restructure anything it touches. It can split things down. It can build things back up and make them stronger like when Kisuke healed himself.
It’s truly an versatile Bankai.
5. Kenpachi Zaraki: No Name
Kenpachi’s Bankai doesn’t even need a name—it’s just that good!
Talk about pure chaos and destruction, combined with zero strategy, like throwing confetti at a funeral.
His power is so unhinged it’s exhilarating! Kenpachi’s Bankai turns him into demon with red skin. First of all it’s intimidating, but it also increases his already insane cutting power. It’s an absolutely broken Bankai.
4. Toshiro Hitsugaya: Daiguren Hyorinmaru
Not gonna lie, I’m a little biased because Hitsugaya is one of my favorite characters. His Bankai is actually really good.
After training his Bankai, Toshiro is able to unlock so much power that it turns him into an full-grown adult. In this state he’s able to control his complete Bankai.
With Hyorinmaru being the strongest ice Zanpakut, it becomes even more overpowered in Bankai release. Toshiro is able to use Flash Freeze, which can freeze anything almost instantly. It’s cold af.
3. Shunsui Kyōraku: Katen Kyōkotsu
Imagine playing the playground game ever, but instead of fun snacks and giggles, it’s about destroying your opponents! That’s Shunsui!
With his tricky rules, this Bankai is actually broken. Who would’ve thought games could dictate a life-or-death battle? Only Shunsui, that’s who!
His ability pull you into an abyss and is pretty much a guaranteed win. It’s just insane.
2. Yamamoto Genryusai: Zanka no Tachi
Fire and fury describe Yamamoto’s Bankai perfectly! Imagine being engulfed in flames that make you reconsider life choices!
Imagine the strongest fire-type zanpakuto that’s so hot it brings back souls that it’s burned before. It’s so hot that it evaporates the water in the air in Soul Society.
This Bankai was so strong that even Yhwach was afraid of it.
1. Sōsuke Aizen: Kyoka Suigetsu
And the champ of the Bankai showdown is none other that Aizen’s Kyoka Suigetsu!
This power lets him mess with your very senses, making you see, hear, and feel things that aren’t even there. He literally is able to control the plot
This Bankai is pure deception. Aizen’s genius shines bright as he turns battles into deceptive mind games. It’s just pure evil.
